The Psychoanlytical Studies Centre (CEP) was created under the cover of the Cooperation Protocol signed in 1995 by the Antena do Campo Freudiano (ACF), the Portuguese representative of the New Lacanian School of the World Association of Psychoanalysis and the Psychology Major of the Psychology Department at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT).

 

In 2003, a Line of Action was defined beteewn CEP and the above mentioned Research Unit, which was then recognized by the (Portuguese) Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The CEP organizes Group Projects and Theoretical and Clinical Seminars, International Conferences, Talks on Psychoanalysis and its connections with Letters, Arts and Sciences, Annual Study Days and the Publication of magazines, articles, books and online texts, were organized and published. 

 

In June 2003, the following advisory Report from an international panel of the FCT was received : “Important contribution with distinguised seriousness that allows for us to foresee positive developments in the upcoming years”.

Ongoing Research (FCT Project, 2003-2006-2008)

 

A team of professors with PhDs, MAs, BAs and students from different areas are terminating their research with the following sub-projects:

1) A Questionnaire to evaluate the social representation of psychoanalysis for portuguese citizens.

2) A bibliographic collection of literature on psychoanalysis and related areas that has been published in  Portugal.

3)  A Critical comentary on the survey and main texts from the bibliographic collection.

José Martinho directed the research for João Manuel Gouveia de Almeida Peneda’s PhD thesis in Art Sciences titled, Paradoxos do Sintoma e da Sublimação, O contributo da teoria psicanalítica de Freud e de Lacan para a Estética, Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (2006). 

 

José Martinho directed the research for José Filipe Duarte Pereirinha’s PhD thesis on Sujeito em Lacan, Departamento de Filosofia da Universidade do Minho, Braga.

 

Fernando Cavaco directed PhD thesis for Pedro Miguel dos Santos Moreira at ISCTE – Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa, titled Constituição e Funcionamento de Redes Inter-organizacionais – uma perspectiva diacrónica, ISCTE, Lisboa (2006).

Objectives

 

•To analyse the theoretical and practical relationships between Law and Psychoanalysis, as well as those between lawyers, judges and psychoanalysts, including all the repercussions this research may have on the conception and enforcement of justice in the tribunals and for the society at large.

•Organization and participation in international and national scientific meetings on “Psychoanalysis and Law”.

•Ongoing the creation of a database on psychoanalytic and similar literature published in Portugal.

•Ongoing the review and critical comment of the survey and main bibliographic works.

•Publication of “Afreudite, Lusófona Magazine on Pure and Applied Psycoanalysis”.

•Publication of others books and articles.

•Guidance of Masters and Ph.D. thesis.

•
